| Business coaching
has evolved into a specific discipline which is independently accredited by the
International Coach Federation.
(ICF).
Business coaching
of this type is a specific profession with a growing set of standards, as you
would expect to be applied to other professions. It is our philosophy that professional
coaching must be presented as a single offering and not simply as part of a wider
in-house business service offering by existing companies. In other words,
our view is that executive coaching has substance and application as a profession,
not simply as a verb.
At
the Coaching Consultancy we believe that coaching is a discipline that must be
learnt as well as practised. All of our coaches have had significant amounts of
coach-specific training. Some of our coaches are already ICF accredited and the
others are going through the lengthy accreditation process. It has only been in
the past two or three years that the ICF has become a fully independent coaching
association, without any corporate affiliation. As the accreditation system in
Europe
is in its early stages, many of our more experienced coaches have not finished
the accreditation process. However, we believe that their experience still remains
the key qualification for coaches today. We expect all of our coaches to have
ICF accreditation within the next two years. Furthermore,
we only work with people who come from a business background or have been working
commercially with coaching for some time. When working with an executive,
coaching is about teaching and explaining concepts that will help in their role.
However, coaching also includes the ability to explore limiting beliefs which
affect performance. There is a requirement to provide specific support to
leaders who are planning significant strategies for their organisation.
In addition, therefore, executive coaching is a form of personal facilitation to ensure
that goals are reached and different perspectives considered. This is done in
a positive supporting framework.
Many
coaches are sole traders who do not have the resources appropriate for the requirements
of a larger organisation. There are many barely qualified individuals, (whom
we do not consider to have had the appropriate level of training,) who have turned to
coaching as an alternative career. The Coaching Consultancy prides itself
on delivering highly trained and experienced executive coaches and conducting
business in a professional manner.
